NILAI, 8 SEPT, 2024 – The second Qualifying School (Q School) for the 2024 Toyota Tour is set to take place from next Tuesday at the Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club. Following a highly competitive first Q School earlier this year at Tiara Melaka Golf & Country Club, which saw Malcolm Ting claim victory, the upcoming event promises another exciting battle for playing rights on the Toyota Tour.
Among the 82 professionals and amateurs set to compete, all eyes will be on newly-turned professional Liyana Durisic, who recently returned from her US collegiate career. Durisic made an immediate impact by finishing 3rd in the ASEAN Qualifier for the Maybank LPGA Championship, earning one of five coveted spots in the main draw of the event, set for next month at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
She will be remembered for winning the Ladies Championship at the Corolla Cross tournament at Palm Garden GC last year, edging out professional Aretha Pan after a two-hole play-off.Also in the spotlight is Allycia Gan, another rising talent who competed alongside Durisic in the ASEAN Qualifier. Despite a less-than-ideal result, Gan will be determined to bounce back and secure her place on the Toyota Tour through the Q School.
Seasoned professional Muhammad Afif Fathi, currently ranked 17th on the Toyota Tour Order of Merit, will bring his experience to the event after a strong showing at an Asian Development Tour event in Danang, Vietnam, where he was one of just four Malaysians to make the cut.
Veteran pro Steven Tan, who has held key management positions at several top clubs in the Klang Valley, is also among the entries. Another notable name is Mohd Shanizam Mohagi, the club manager at Royal Perak Golf Club, who turned heads with his impressive performance at the Corolla Cup held at his home club last year.
The three-day event will feature cut-offs after both the first and second rounds, with players needing to finish with a total score of +15 or better to earn playing rights on the Toyota Tour calendar.
With a mix of seasoned professionals and promising amateurs, the Toyota Tour 2nd Qualifying School is poised to deliver another thrilling chapter in Malaysian golf.
